But if you did need the reminder; Janet Napolitano is no moderate. Her recent veto of eight major bills show that she is all for maintaining the standard list of socialist, left-wing causes.
- Since she vetoed the bill that would make it possible for local police to apprehend illegals in Arizona, she made it clear that she’s fine with maintaining the status quo on illegal immigration. Open the borders people – damn the torpedos! Full steam ahead! Remember folks, just a few years ago, She wanted to give illegals driver’s licenses. In response to Napolitano’s apparent lack of concern over illegal immigration, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials descended on a company that manufactures pallets around the country and captured 30 illegals at the Phoenix plant today.
- She vetoed the bill that would make it illegal for the governor to confiscate citizen’s firearms or interfere in the sale of ammunition during a state of emergency. Apparently, the spanking that the NRA just dealt “school bus Nagin” and Louisiana officials wasn’t enough to deter our governor on this issue. Radio reports on this veto decision indicated that her excuse for keeping herself clear to attack our Second Amendment rights was that she might need to move ammunition caches if a forest fire ever came through.
- She vetoed two bills, ensuring that 1) tax payers will continue to cover the costs of abortions in Arizona and that 2) parents will not necessarily be notified if their teenage daughter is seeking an abortion.
Of course, you can add this list to the education bill that she vetoed last month, costing the state millions in court fines – that she just happened to finagle into the extra funding that she had wanted to go to english language course originally – and denying business the ability to play a role in helping to fund education. Eventually, however, after numerous attempts by the House and Senate, she caved and allowed the bill to go through.
There was one funny thing to come out of Napolitano’s multiple vetos. An Arizona Republic op/ed gave the details of state representative John Allen’s comments,
Rep. John Allen got the only laugh out of the bunch, if only in a schoolyard comeback kind of way. Allen had just mocked Napolitano’s legal reasoning on Senate Bill 1157, the trespassing bill, which she called an “unfunded mandate” and “unconstitutional.” Allen said Napolitano was siding with government agencies, who opposed the bill, instead of the general public, which he thinks supports the idea.
“Sometimes I think the best way to describe the governor is the captain of the Titanic, who’s upset at the passengers that their screaming is upsetting the crew,” Allen said. “She does not care much for the citizens who want change.”
Rep. Steve Gallardo quickly demanded that Allen apologize for “throwing rocks” at the governor, rather than working with her on a comprehensive immigration solution.
To which, Allen responded, “I’m sorry she’s our governor.”
Me too John, me too. Thankfully, both Munsil and Goldwater look like they have potential.
