When a Republican does it, it is front-page news for months and near-sufficient reason for the Democrats to retake the Congress. When a Democrat does it doesn’t get anywhere near the news coverage. The story needs to be broken by websites like thesmokinggun.com and conservative blogs. After they break the story, it seems like the MSM reluctantly drags a reporter over to cover it.

An aide for Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) was arrested last Friday for attempting to sexually exploit a minor.

I have been watching and reading online news over the weekend and this is the first that I have heard of this story. When Foley was trying to abuse pages, I couldn’t get away from the story. When Craig tried to pick up a cop in the men’s bathroom, every news outlet spent hundreds of hours and column inches discussing and re-discussing toe-tapping and wondering if this was the final proof that Republicans were all secretly gay, but just afraid to admit it. This guy tries to pick up a 13-year-old boy online and the MSM is kind of ho-hum, been there done that before. Notice this WaPo article was published today on page B04. McHaney was fired Friday.

A Senate aide was arrested in a sting operation after he allegedly tried to arrange a sexual encounter in the District with someone he thought was a 13-year-old boy, according to charging papers.

James Michael McHaney, 28, was arrested Friday after he allegedly tried to meet the boy through an undercover police informant, according to a warrant filed in D.C. Superior Court. He was charged with using a computer connected to the Internet, a facility of interstate commerce, to try to sexually exploit a child.

McHaney was fired Monday from his job as a scheduler for Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.). Cantwell’s office issued a statement saying she “has zero tolerance for crimes against children.”
