As if all of this wasn’t enough, apparently Van Jones is also a 9/11 truther — he honestly believes that Bush and Cheney engineered the 9/11 attacks.
Update: Jones is claiming that he does not, nor did he ever believe in the truther doctrines. So one is forced to ask why he signed the original 2004 “911 Truth” document (his signature is at position #46). His name is there, of his own free will. So he either did/does believe the 9/11 truther nonsense and is now lying to cover his butt, or he was incredibly sloppy and thoughtlessly signed the document because it called for investigations of Bush/Cheney – hardly a quality you want in the senior bureaucrat responsible for managing billions of our tax dollars. Either way (and despite all the hand-wringing and weeping over the great loss to the country) we’re all better off without him in the job.
So the same guy who is actively fighting the so-called birther rumors, has as one of his closest advisors and trusted members of his administration, a fellow who seriously believes that Bush and Cheney masterminded the al Qaeda attacks on New York, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania.
Update: Googling around and just saw this. I’m amazed AMAZED!!!!!!!!! that it took them 3 days to accept his resignation on this issue. I’m even more amazed that Jones actually has the cojones to call outing him like this a “vicious smear job.” This guy has something surpassing chutzpah to attack the people who dared to question his fringe lunatic ideas. He should be tucking tail and apologizing to America for his foul and offensive views. I’m also amazed that leading figures in the Democratic Party are still defending this guy.
Dean, a former Vermont government and Democratic presidential candidate, added: “All of us campaigning for office have had people throw clipboards in front of our face and ask us to sign. And he learned the hard way you ought not to do that. But I don’t think he really thinks the government had anything to do with causing 9/11.” …
Nancy Sutley, who heads the White House environmental council, said Jones “had been a strong voice for creating jobs that improve energy efficiency and utilize renewable resources.’
Update 2: More here – and it’s equally amazing that Obama did not demand Jones’ resignation immediately after seeing his signature on the truther petition. He never did publicly say Jones had to step down. Instead he’s playing the same game he did with Rev. Wright, Ayers, Dohrn, Rezko, and others during the campaign — “I had no idea! … That’s not the < insert name here > that I knew.” One wonders if Obama was just going to ignore Jone’s truther beliefs and hope it went away?
(As an aside, we should all say a prayer of thanks that Pence is calling for the whole idea of appointing these so-called czars to be thoroughly investigated.)
