They don’t know the difference

It’s profoundly sad that someone can make a joke like this about any inhabitant of the White House. Obama and his administration truly don’t comprehend (or don’t care about) the difference between an enemy and an ally of this country.

Sarkozy: Obama’s Iran policy is “utterly immature”

Not a terribly rousing show of support from the French President for Obama’s plans on Iran.

Sarkozy has made his criticisms only in closed forums in France. But according to a senior Israeli government source, the reports reaching Israel indicate that Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate’s stance on Iran as “utterly immature” and comprised of “formulations empty of all content.” …

Following their July meeting, Sarkozy repeatedly expressed disappointment with Obama’s positions on Iran, concluding that they were “not crystallized, and therefore many issues remain open,” the Israeli source said. Advisors to the French president who held separate meetings with Obama’s advisors came away with similar impressions and expressed similar disappointment.

What on Earth are Obama supporters thinking? If even the French view Obama as weak on international issues and foreign policy, we’re in for serious trouble if this man is elected.

For those who missed Obama’s muddled thoughts on Iran,

Ahmadinejad: “Israel will soon disappear”

From Brietbart.com we see that Ahmandinejad is once again threatening to destroy Israel.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad predicted on Monday that Muslims would uproot “satanic powers” and repeated his controversial belief that Israel will soon disappear, the Mehr news agency reported.

“I must announce that the Zionist regime (Israel), with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion and betrayal is about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene,” he said.

“Today, the time for the fall of the satanic power of the United States has come and the countdown to the annihilation of the emperor of power and wealth has started.”

Since taking the presidency in August 2005, Ahmadinejad has repeatedly provoked international outrage by predicting Israel is doomed to disappear.

“I tell you that with the unity and awareness of all the Islamic countries all the satanic powers will soon be destroyed,” he said to a group of foreign visitors ahead of the 19th anniversary of the death of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Ahmadinejad also again expressed his apocalyptic vision that tyranny in the world be abolished by the return to earth of the Mahdi, the 12th imam of Shiite Islam, alongside great religious figures including Jesus Christ.

“With the appearance of the promised saviour… and his companions such as Jesus Christ, tyranny will be soon be eradicated in the world.”

This madman is predicting that Muslims will bring about the “fall of the satanic power of the United States” and is threatening to “wipe Israel off of the map” and saying that Israel is “about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene.” However, Barack Obama blithely stumbles along, promising that he will meet with him in the first year of his presidency, with no preconditions. In Obama’s world, those threats don’t really mean anything, the Iranians only make those threats against us and our allies because the U.S. is “just downright mean” and “guided by fear.” In Obama’s world, those threats are our fault, so why wouldn’t we immediately sit down and break bread with a lunatic and dictator?

It’s abundantly clear that Obama doesn’t even begin to understand the preconditions that others like Reagan and Kennedy had already established before meeting with Khrushchev and Gorbachev. They made it clear that any aggressive actions against the U.S. or its allies would be met with force. Additionally they had the military wherewithal and political support to defend the country if necessary. Obama on the other hand is riding the wave of Democratic anti-war sentiment and is promising to demolish our military by cutting military spending and pushing that money toward welfare programs. With a demoralized and unequipped military, as well as an overtly anti-war Congress, Obama plans to meet with all of the people who are threatening our demise — without preconditions.

The man is a complete neophyte, a baby, untested and untried, and apparently completely unaware. He doesn’t appear to understand (believe or care) that that the radical islamists mean business. He doesn’t seem to mind that the threats we are hearing are part of a religious crusade for Ahmadinejad. It’s not a political situation that he’s discussing. In Ahmadinejad’s mind, it’s his job to usher in the time of the 12th imam and to do that, the world needs massive wars, famine, toil, trial, and unrest. There is no middle ground or “common interests” that can be reached with that mindset. When faced with Ahmadinejad’s demands, he expects that you will give in and convert to his brand of Islam, give in and become a dhimmi, give in and die, or die fighting against it. Ahmadinejad is not seeking a middle ground, he’s seeking a worldwide caliphate with him and the mahdi in charge.

Obama, by his own admission, is willing to help Ahmadinejad right along by raising his stature with an official meeting from the President of the United States. By agreeing to meet with him and others like him — without preconditions and in his first year in office — Obama is engaging in a wholesale program of preemptive capitulation.

It is sad that he, and so many others in this country, don’t seem to understand or care that they are doing so.

Iranians trying to provoke a US attack?

Update below

Sure looks like it and even CNN is forced to question what they were thinking.

Five Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats “harassed and provoked” three U.S. Navy ships early Sunday in international waters, the U.S. military said Monday, calling the encounter a “significant” confrontation. …

U.S. military officials said the incident occurred early Sunday morning in the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow shipping channel leading in and out of the Persian Gulf.

They said that as the guided missile destroyer USS Hopper, the guided missile cruiser USS Port Royal and the guided-missile frigate USS Ingraham were entering the Persian Gulf, five Iranian boats approached them at high speed and swarmed them.

The Iranian boats made “threatening” moves toward the U.S. ships and in one case came within 200 yards of one of them, the U.S. officials said.

The U.S. Navy also received a radio transmission that officials believe came from the Iranian boats. The transmission said, “I am coming at you. You will explode in a couple of minutes,” the U.S. military officials told CNN.

When the U.S. ships heard that radio transmission, they took up their gun positions and officers were “in the process” of giving the order to fire when the Iranians abruptly turned away, the U.S. officials said.

After the radio transmission, one of the Iranian boats dropped white boxes into the water in front of the U.S. ships, the officials said. It was not clear what was in the boxes, the officials said.

Interesting that the Iranians claim they just didn’t know where the boats were from and they stopped as soon as they recognized they were American boats. How exactly did these Iranian Revolutionary Guards know to threaten them in English if they didn’t know they were American (or Canadian or British)? How much closer (than 200 yards) would they need to have come before they could figure out their intended targets were American?

They were clearly trying to push the limits of the American rules of engagement to see just how far they could go. But they knew that if the U.S. had fired on them, they would have been able to scream about the “Great Satan” attacking the vessels of a “peaceful nation” in international waters. Then would have been able to try and use the incident to drum up international “outrage” against the U.S.

Update: Newsmax has video of the event here. It simply reconfirms that there is no way the Iranians could have not known they were dealing with American ships, the American sailors repeatedly identify themselves and request that the Iranians do the same and that they stay away. After buzzing around the American ships for about two minutes and hearing the American attempts to contact them, the Iranians reply — on the same radio channel and in English — with the “you will explode” threat.

This is an increasingly clear case of the Iranians purposefully attempting to provoke an American attack.

Update: This raw story article claims that the radio contact could have been the work of the “Filipino Monkey” — apparently a well known radio prankster who trolls radio waves waiting for an opportunity to jump into the midst of radio transmissions with obscene language and threats.

The article only refers to the radio transmissions and does not question the identity of the Iranian boats involved in pestering the US warships.

Muslim cars?

This latest move from Proton — the Malaysian automaker – is just the sort of marketing scheme that some state-funded middle manager would come up with. If one has government policy and tariffs protecting them from the real world, any old sales plan will do (kind of like breaking windows to keep glaziers in business).

Malaysian automaker Proton plans to team up with companies in Iran and Turkey to produce “Islamic cars” for the global market, a news report said Sunday.

Proposed by Iran, the collaboration would include installing features in automobiles such as a compass to determine the direction of Mecca for prayers, and compartments for storing the Quran and headscarves, Proton’s Managing Director Syed Zainal Abidin told national news agency Bernama.

“What they (Iran) want to do is to call that an Islamic car,” he was quoted as saying while on a visit in Iran. “The car will have all the Islamic features and should be meant for export purposes. We will identify a car that we can develop to be produced in Malaysia, Iran or Turkey.” …

For years, Proton thrived in a protected environment in which high duties were imposed on imported vehicles, forcing many Malaysians to buy Proton cars. But duties have been slowly lowered in line with a regional trade agreement, and more Malaysians are buying imported vehicles.

Classic! “It will have all the Islamic features,” like a compass and glove compartment. That’s all I need to hear. I’ll take three!!! (or not) I sure do hope the “pbuh” bumper sticker is standard equipment as well.

How much do you want to bet Syed’s uncle is well placed in the Malaysian government.
